Three Interns Receive 2004 Pinnacle Awards

 
Go Figure Winners and Sandia Interns Honored - Kyle Davis, Sarabdeep Mann, and Brooks Randolph

The Announcement
Kyle Davis, Sarabdeep Mann, and Brooks Randolph, three winners from Sandia/CA’s Go Figure Math Challenge, were honored on May 18, 2004 as recipients of the 2004 Pinnacle Awards. These award winners and recent high school graduates will be interning at Sandia/CA this summer.

Kyle Davis
Manteca, CA

Kyle is a recent top graduate of Sierra High School, and plans to attend UC Davis in the fall. Kyle is undecided on his major, but is leaning towards either biology or pre-medicine. His extracurricular activities and community service included: American Legion California Boy’s State representative, California Scholarship Federation vice president, Boy Scouts of America eagle scout, science bowl team captain and organizer, and Doctor’s Hospital of Manteca volunteer—to name a few. Kyle will begin his second summer internship at Sandia this year, working with Sara Fernandez in the ES&H Interdisciplinary department.

Sarabdeep Mann
Stockton, CA

Sarabdeep recently graduated from Tokay High School, and plans to attend UCLA in the fall, possibly majoring in biochemistry. Some of his extracurricular activities and community service included: Spanish club, Indian-Pakistani-Middle Eastern club treasurer, science olympiad and academic decathlon participant, and member of the Community Improvement Association. Sarabdeep has been a three-time participant and winner of Go Figure since 2001. He will return to Sandia for a second time this summer as an intern in the ES&H Interdisciplinary department.

Brooks Randolph
Stockton, CA

A recent top graduate of Franklin High School, Brooks will begin his studies in the fall at Claremont-McKenna College, possibly majoring in government/economics. In addition to his outstanding academic achievements, Brooks was also Key Club president, senior class vice president, American Red Cross club member, Stockton Competitive Soccer league player, and participated in canned food drives, Eagle Scout projects, and Quail Lakes Baptist Church youth group. Brooks will join Sandia this summer as an intern in the ES&H Interdisciplinary department, working with Mark Brynildson.

 

About the Award
Sponsored by The Record and the San Joaquin Office of Education, the Pinnacle program was established to recognize the outstanding academic achievements, extracurricular activity participation, and community service involvement of the top one percent of high school seniors throughout Calaveras and San Joaquin counties. A total of 77 award recipients were chosen by their teachers, counselors, and administrators this year. Winners receive certificates, medallions, and $100 cash award at the annual All County Student Pinnacle Awards banquet held at University of the Pacific’s Long Theater.
