About Nina
Nina Berry is a principal member of the technical staff in the Scalable Computing Department of the 8900 Distributed Information Systems & Technology Center at Sandia National Laboratories, California. Currently, Nina is engaged in the research, development, and promotion of agent-based and wireless sensor network technologies, and in guiding the evolution of Sandia as a leader in agent-based research within the DOE complex. Before joining Sandia in 1997, she worked for US West Advanced Technology and the Naval Surface Weapons Center, involved in such activities as the research and development of learning algorithms to provide intelligence within agent-based systems. Nina is well published and has received a number of awards, including the Sandia’s Women Wall of Fame (2003) and Women of Color in Government & Defense in Educational Leadership (2000). Nina received her M.S. degree in computer science and her Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Nina is the principal investigator for Sandia/CA’s Embedded Reasoning Institute (ERI) that provides exciting research opportunities in wireless technologies for undergraduate and graduate students in computer science, physical science, and engineering. She also serves as a mentor to Sandia interns year-round.

About the Appointment
The National Research Council’s (NRC) Panel on Digitization and Communications Science is one of six panels under the auspices of the Army Research Laboratory Technical Assessment Board (ARLTAB). This panel will annually assess the scientific and technical quality of the Army Research Laboratory’s (ARL) research and development related to its digitization and communications science mission. The panel will also prepare a draft chapter of its findings that will be integrated into the ARLTAB’s annual report.
